Sharing & QR Code

Share documents securely

Sharing documents has never been easier or more secure than with DocNado. Each document can be shared with other people with a single click via a personalized QR code or a direct link — and the best part: recipients do not need their own DocNado account. Guests can join anonymously through the shared link, view the line items, and mark individual items as "claimed by me". This makes splitting a restaurant bill among friends effortless: everyone scans the QR code, selects their ordered dishes, and instantly sees their individual share including optional tip. As the document creator, you always retain full control and an overview of all assignments.

Join as a Guest

Guests can join a bill via QR code or link without registering. Here's how:

  • 1. Open link: Scan the QR code or tap the link — the bill is displayed.
  • 2. Enter name: As a guest, enter your name and optionally your email (email recommended for PayPal matching).
  • 3. Select items: Tap the items you ordered and adjust the quantity.
  • 4. Tip: Optionally add a tip to your share — proportional, custom amount, or none at all.
  • 5. Claim: Tap "Claim items" — your share is calculated.
  • 6. Pay: Receive a PayPal link for payment and paste the payment code as a note in PayPal.

⚠️ Important: Set up PayPal

For your guests to see a **direct payment button**, you need to set a **PayPal.Me username** in your profile and link your PayPal account (Profile → Link PayPal). **Without PayPal linked**, your guests will only see a notice to contact you directly — no payment button will be displayed.

What is the payment code?

The payment code (format **B-XXXXXX**) allows DocNado to **automatically** match your payment to your share. **Without the code in the PayPal note**, the bill owner has to search for your payment manually — this can cause delays. So: **Always paste the code as a note!**

If no PayPal button is shown

If you don't see a payment button, the bill owner hasn't set up PayPal yet. In this case: **Contact them directly** and ask about alternatives like bank transfer, cash, or other payment methods. The amount you owe is still displayed.
